” Karen Barar (Steps n Stitches) and I have had a working relationship for the past 22 years. As the Artistic Director of the Stapleton School of the Performing Arts costuming is, next to the dance itself, perhaps the most important component of staging. Karen has designed, created and executed literally thousands of costumes for our organization over the years.

Creating costumes from full scale ballet productions such as Coppelia, La Fille Mal Gardee, Peqita, Swan Lake, Le Sylphide, and a multitude of other small repertory pieces, to Spring Demonstration (Recital) costumes for the entire school, 500 students strong has never phased Karen. She has always been responsive to my own creative ideas, has executed my vision and has always done this with confidence, always delivering on time.

Karen is an amazing talent. Her ability to create costumes from sketches, along with creating her own imaginative designs, makes her a stand-out in the field of costume design and construction.

I have given her renderings of Victorian gowns and coats for our annual production of Nutcracker. She created patterns, selected fabric and assembled the costumes to my specifications. They are beautiful, elevating the overall production to a high standard of excellence.

I have found that Karen is the most valuable member of my technical and creative team.”
